- Children and adults of all ages are invited to dance around the thirty foot traditional May Pole, and return to a simpler time enjoying an afternoon of storytelling, juggling, crafts demonstrations, live old time music, good food, and more. This festival is a highlight of many Long Islanders who look forward to its simple down to earth flavor.
September 11, 2016 Fiddle and Folk Festival at Benner's Farm
- Come and enjoy great music on the Backporch stage and all around the farm. Bring your instruments in Jam Hollow or join the Sing Along. September 25, 2016 LI Apple Celebration at Sherwood Jayne Farm, E Setauket
- The focus of the Festival is the humble apple and our local autumn harvest traditions; with events planned for the entire family. The Festival is held at the Sherwood-Jayne House, an 18th century farmhouse that retains its original apple orchard where some of the trees are over 100 years old.
- As part of the activities planned for the day, you can make apple cider and apple sauce...play old-fashioned games like apple relay races... create an apple head doll... sample fresh apple fritters and candy apples... have a pony ride in the apple orchard.. see demonstrations of open-hearth colonial cooking... participate in our Apple Pie Bake-Off Contest... join in the tour of the historic barn at the Sherwood-Jayne House... Iisten to traditional music, see demonstrations of cider making, basket making, stenciling and other crafts... and join in the many other events for people of all ages.
October 9, 2016, Old Fashioned Harvest Fair at Benner's Farm
- Musicians, and storytellers will delight the crowd with lively traditional music and songs. Crafts people will give hands-on demonstrations of many of the folk arts that constitute our Island heritage. Apple Cider will be made throughout the day and an Autumn Farm Stand will sell produce and pumpkins. Seasonal treats will also be available.
February ??, 2017 Maple Sugaring day at Benner's Farm
- Collect the sap, boil it down, smell the fire, feel it's warmth, taste the syrup at the end of the day.
- All phases of Maple Sugaring will be demonstrated. Join us as we walk through the woods gathering sap, seeing how the trees are tapped, what kind they are and how to tell them from the other trees in our Long Island woods. Stand in front of the warm fire where the gallons of sap are boiled down to produce the wonderful sweet, syrup we all enjoy. Finally, enter the shed where the syrup will be finished off. You can try many of the products of this old time process at our tasting tables.
